Interview: Strange Dreamz

We sat down with one of the most exciting young producers on the scene - Strange Dreamz - to find out about what inspires him and his upcoming projects.

When did you first get into production? Who taught you?

The first time i got into producing was 2020. Start of 2020, and I was just watching YouTube videos, watching podcasts. Everything I could learn about… I started on logic, I’m now on FL. And I was just watching everything I could learn about producing.

In your opinion, what makes a good beat?

In my opinion, simplicity is key to making a good beat. Also…space for the artist. Cause if there’s no space for the artist. They won’t be able to rap comfortably on the beat, so yeah.

If you could choose any established artist to work with, who would it be? Why?

An artist that I’d love to collaborate with in the future, would be Mr Bugzy Malone, King of the North. Because of his lyricism, his flows…ahhh, yeah, it’s all mad. He’s cold.

What does music mean to you?

Music to me…is-is everything basically, it’s my life. It’s what I do everyday, I go on FL everyday, make beats, just-just work with artists everyday, producers..yeah.

What do you want to achieve in the next few months?

In the next few months I wanna build a brand for myself. Get me out there. With my brother TL, we’re gonna be working on some projects, mixtapes, albums, singles…Everything like that.

Have you got a favourite beat that you’ve produced? If so, what is it called and why is it your favourite?

My favourite beat so far, would have to be a beat called Sticks. That I made for TL. The reason it’s my favourite beat, is because there’s loads of layers to it, and it also has space for the artist to rap on.

What excited you most about working with TL and what tracks are you working on together that you are most excited about?

When I first heard of TL, and I listened to his music. I was like…instantly *points to his head* something went off and I was like “rah he’s Cold!” So now that I’m working with him, I’m really seeing that we can…We can make history with what we’re doing, with our mixtape that’s soon coming out, called expectations. One track on there that I’m really excited about is police, is a police track, about the police. Also, don’t wake me up, that’s a very good song featuring zara. Ehm….also Sticks, that’s one of my favourites. Yeah Sticks.

Other than yourself, who is your favourite producer in spitgame? Why?

One of my favourite producers in spitgame would have to be KBeats. He’s too talented. Like, when I first heard his beats in spitgame I was like “Rahh is that the standards mandem are setting?” So I was like, yeah it’s KB, it’s KB.
