Interview: Impho

When did you first get into production? Who taught you?

So I started producing in like 2016, it was my 11th birthday and my parents bought me a MacBook, my Uncle cracked it. And then my cousin just basically taught me the basics. Bought me the full version, everything there, and then I just started watching bare YouTube tutorials and then I kept improving to the point where I am now. And then...yeah.

What keeps you motivated to produce beats?

I think personally I'm motivated by the other people around me. Seeing them do their ting, seeing them get placements and stuff like that and yeah, it just inspires me. And then like, also like when I get messages from other people telling me my beats are hard, when I get comments in my YouTube videos, stuff like that. Like little stuff.

Where do you hope to be this time next year?

By next year I wanna have like, I wanna have a decent amount of followers let's say maybe like…1-5k. I don't know something like around that area. I wanna have a few placements, I wanna be more involved in the industry, you get me.

What makes you stand out as a producer?

I think the one thing that makes me stand out is my work ethic. Whenever someone just asks me for a beat. I'll be on it like that *clicks fingers*. Say for example, if I see like a TikTok and I'm like “yo I need to sample this." I'll be like to one of my guys, "yo I need to sample this”. And then I'll actually follow through and do it quick, quick time. Another strong point I have, is probably my drums, a lot of people say they like my drums how I mix them. I like that about my production as well.

What beat, that youve produced, are you most proud of? Why?

Ok so there's this one beat that I made with my guy and… it's so simple but it's so effective. It's like a Drake × Rick Ross type beat. And it's just, there's suttin about that beat, like the simplicity and how everything just clicks together, you get me.

In three words, how would you describe yourself?

If I had to get three words to describe myself. I'd say, I'm hardworking. I'm consistent. And I'm honest.

What does music mean to you?

G-ting, Music means everything to me. Without music…I really don't know where I'd be. I really don't know what I'd be doing. Especially right now, music means everything to me.

If you could work with any artist past or present, producing an album. Who would it be?

An artist that I'd really like to work with one day....I've got three main artists that I wanna work with one day. I wanna work with Dave, I wanna work with J. Cole and I wanna work with Kendrick. All in due time innit.

What spitgame artist do you like to work with the most? Why?

If I had to pick a Spitgame artist to do a song with, l'd probably have to say Jedz. Just because of how talented this guy is, you know, he's calm to work with. And yeah, I just feel like I'd make good music with him.

Other than yourself, who is your favourite producer in spitgame? Why?

My favourite producer in Spitgame, other than myself, probably……..Strangedreamz. I just- I just fuck with his beats, honestly.
