Benjamin turner

MANAGING DIRECTOR / Film Director, Writer & Producer / Manager / Educator

Award-winning filmmaker, writer, and educator Benjamin Turner is redefining British storytelling and innovating how young people develop and engage with creativity. Previously leading Music Departments across London, embedding industry-standard practice and learning, Turner is now Founder/Managing Director of Rap Club & The Spit Game UK where he has built a groundbreaking platform that develops emerging talent while producing bold, unflinching films that challenge social norms. Alongside this, he develops innovative programmes for learners, supporting teachers to engage in progressive practices while managing young creatives entering the industry, and launching careers.

With his young team of exceptional industry-engaged creatives across music and film, Turner is a champion for youth voice and youth-led social action through creativity. The Spit Game started as a rap club in detention but has evolved into a creative powerhouse, with Turner directing/producing boundary-pushing films. Two of their films - 'The Nudes' and 'Help! I Think My Teacher is Racist' - were selected at BAFTA-qualifying festivals in 2024, showcasing alongside established production companies despite working with significantly smaller budgets and a youth-led team with much less experience. He has been recognised for fearless storytelling, tackling race, power, and youth identity with a raw authenticity rarely seen on screen.

Turner’s directorial style blends heightened realism, dark humour, and raw performances, creating an immersive and unflinching approach to storytelling that elevates young Black voices and cultures. Projects explore challenging themes affecting young people growing up in London today, from serious youth violence to vulnerability, relationships and racism in education. All productions maintain youth leadership across roles (including as heads of departments), evidencing the power and potential of young Black cultures, stories and talent.

Beyond film, Turner continues to support teachers in embedding progressive practices into their curriculums, leading Rap Clubs across London and Birmingham with his team of alumni Rap Club Leaders. At the same time, he actively develops and manages emerging talent in music and film, helping young creatives launch careers.
